What Other Kids Say What Other Kids Say

Here's what the kids said from SPINIFEX COLLEGE MOUNT ISA...

Each year we take our year 12 Earth Science students to Kronosaurus Korner at Richmond for a palaeontology field trip.  It is a highlight in the school calendar for these students.  The staff at Kronosaurus Korner go to great lengths to accommodate our needs.  For students to be able to see and touch real fossilised remains of marine reptiles, in the area in which they were found, is an invaluable learning experience.  The information at Kronosaurus Korner helps them to build an understanding of the palaeoenvironment of the area in which they live.  In addition to this they are able to fossick and find their own fossils, and practise processing techniques.  Having these resources and experiences available in more remote areas of Queensland provides a unique opportunity to enriched the students’ learning.  We will be back for many years to come!  Monique Gilles, Earth Science Teacher, Spinifex State College Mount Isa.

I had never seen a fossil before, and didn’t know anything about them before going to Kronosaurus Korner, which was an awesome experience.  Seeing all the fossils that have been found in the area, including Ichthyosaurs was unbelievable.  Driving from Mount Isa to Richmond was worth it!  I really enjoyed fossicking for my own fossil too.  This was an awesome experience.  Tertuis Coetzee, School Captain 2008.

It’s awesome that all the marine reptile fossils are the originals, not plastic copies.  It’s great that people can see the real thing at Kronosaurus Korner.  Andrew Wright

There really was an amazing variety of marine life on display at Kronosaurus Korner.  I found it fascinating that that Ichthyosaur was such a massive reptile, and was supported by its flippers.  Being at the centre helped me to imagine that the land we now know as dry and habitable was once under water.  I discovered the history of the land formation which was beautiful, and enjoyed looking for fossils and sharing my discoveries.  Naomi Ratuvuki

Learning about the different marine reptiles and the Great Artesian Basin was really interesting.  Going to Kronosaurus Korner was a great experience as it changed my perception on marine reptiles.  Seeing the bones up close was unbelievable and being able to retrieve your own fossil was great.  Leisa Nielsen

An amazing thing at Kronosaurus Korner is that the fossils are there with no glass case around them, so you could see them in detail- it was a real up-close experience.  Nikki Westcott

I enjoyed the tour of the museum and observing the palaeontologist working on the fossils.  Jayde White

It was interesting to learn about the marine reptiles that once lived in the area, and then see their remains.  Ashleigh Murphy

Learning about all the different marine reptiles, then going out onto the fossicking sites and having the experience of finding something that is millions of years old was a highlight.  Nicole Hodgkinson

The Kronosaurus Korner museum tour was very informative and interesting.  The fossils are open to look at, with no glass obscuring the view.  I didn’t realise exactly how long a Kronosaurus was until I saw it at the museum.  Kael Larkin

The sheer scale and diversity of the fossils was startling.  It was a real eye-opener.  Matt Van Ryt.
